All about the foundation stage:
The early years foundation stage begins from birth to the term after children reach the age of five. (reception year in primary school). All three and four year old children are entitled to (15 hrs maximum) of early education from the start of the term following their third birthday.
All settings and schools that receive grant funding for the early years education of children aged three to five are required to plan activities and experiences that help children make progress in their development and learning.
Young children will have a wide variety of different experiences and will have a broad range of skills and interests by this age.
They need a well-planned and resourced curriculum to take their learning forward and to provide opportunities for all children to succeed in an atmosphere of care and where they feel valued. All activities should be fun, relevant and motivating.
Staff carry out daily observations on every child and note their interests and progress, these observations are used to inform our planning to ensure every childs interest and level of development is incorporated into our themed plan for the following week. We believe that our staff have a key role in working with parents to support their childs learning
The Foundation Stage Curriculum is divided into the following six areas of learning:
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Communication, language and literacy
- Problem solving Reasoning and numeracy
- The development of knowledge and understanding of the world
- Physical development and Creative development.
